Chittenango Lions Club

 

About Us

 

The Chittenango Lions Club is the local Chittenango, NY contingent of Lions Clubs International. We are one of approximately 45-thousand Lions Clubs world wide, with a global membership of around 1.3-million individuals, who have spawned >5700 youth Leo Clubs comprised of ~144-thousand youth members. Lions world wide are dedicated to the mission of empowering volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international understanding through the work of the member Lions Clubs. Lions around the world have taken up the challenge, and are the leading champions for the blind and visually impaired.  Here are a few facts about the Lions and the Chittenango Club:

 

·        Lions were founded June of 1917 in Chicago by Melvin Jones, and today are the world’s largest and most successful Humanitarian Service Organization

·        By 1920 the organization had evolved into an International Service Organization

·        In 1925 Lions responded to Helen Keller’s appeal, and became “Knights of the Blind

·        The Chittenango Club was chartered in Feb. 1972, and today numbers around 50 men and women from the community

·        The Chittenango Club meets regularly on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, with a Board of Director’s meeting on the 4th Thursday of the month
