LIONS HELP DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS WITH FUNDRAISER
The Chittenango Lions Club carries out many projects each
year that are specifically ?their own projects?. Included are several fundraising projects and specific
assistance to the visually impaired. But the Club is also noted for donations to other non-profits as
well as specific help to other organizations who are engaged in their own worthwhile goals. Each year
other community groups come to Chittenango Lions and ask for a hand that often involves labor rather that
just money.
One of these non-profit organizations that the Lions have helped over
the years is the local Dollars for Scholars Committee. Lion?s assistance has not only included a financial
contribution, but also by helping on one of their fundraising projects each Fall. That project is the
annual dinner whereby the Dollars for Scholars Committee sells tickets and sponsors the annual dinner.
The Lions help each year consists of cooking and serving the dinner.
Though the food is usually donated by an area business, on occasion the Lions also help defray some
additional expenses. Thus through committee ticket sales and assistance from the Lions, Dollars for
Scholars build up its treasury by putting on this annual dinner. The proceeds help adults as well as
graduating seniors.
On September 25th the annual Dollars for Scholars dinner was held at
the Chittenango American Legion Post for about 100 people. The meal was cooked and served by 10 members
of the Club. These members on Septembers donated some 50 labor hours including acquiring and cooking the
food, working on the serving line, and returning the Legion kitchen to tip top shape as usual.
The Lions team that donated their time on September 25th were:
co-chairpersons Alan Laube and Steve Waite, cooks Jack Kern and Lee Finkle along with helpers Mike Lynch,
John Wozny, Buck LeMessurier, Marge Montross, Pat and Louise Jerome.
Lions President Jim English stated: ?The Chittenango Lions have always
been proud to work with the Dollars for Scholars organization. They serve a very worthwhile cause in our
community and its always great to read about the young people and adults that benefit in scholarship
money from their efforts each year. But it also makes us happy that we have been able to play a small
part in their success.?
